Resistance Base Camp 541A Street, Maple Ridge, BC (has been demolished) Behind the ScenesPhotographs taken by Kent Sponagle when scouting this location. Location Notes: The base was at the old PVI (Pacific Vocational Institute) in Maple Ridge, at the north end of 251A Street. This was a facility to teach young offenders a trade. It was torn down immediately after BSG shot there in season 2. It was slated to become a new subdivision, but as of 2012, it hadn't been developed yet. Have you been to this area? If so, please contact us with an update!

This episode has three locations. 1. Nuked Caprica - Kara gets shot Robert Burnaby Park, Edmonds and 4 Street, Burnaby Travel Tips: The location is at the south end of Robert Burnaby Park, near the baseball diamond. Enter the forest beside right field. The truck and Kara's shooting were filmed along the path, and Roslin's dream sequence from 'Flesh and Bone' was filmed in the forest on the left. Our photos above may not be perfect matches as we didn't have a lot of time to search for this particular location. Did you find it? Please contact us with stories and pics! 2. Resistance Base Pacific Vocational Institute, north end of 251 A street, Maple Ridge (site has been demolished) Behind the ScenesBelow are a set of reference photos taken by location manager Kent Sponagle when scouting the site! Location Notes: The base was at the old PVI (Pacific Vocational Institute) in Maple Ridge, north end of 251A Street. This was a facility to teach young offenders a trade. It was torn down immediately after BSG shot there in Season 2. It was slated to become a new subdivision, but nothing has been developed as of 2012. Have you been to the area? If so contact us with an update! 3. Kara's Hospital Riverview Hospital, 2601 Lougheed Highway, Coquitlam A good interactive map is here. Travel Tips: We passed Riverview Hospital on our way to the Breeder's Canyon site in Coquitlam. Traffic can be bad here, so we'd suggest going on a weekday. This location used to be a mental institution and is now used exclusively for filming. A security vehicle drove the grounds when we were there. We didn't make any effort to hide what we were doing, and the driver simply smiled and waved at us as he drove by. The resistance base camp used for 'The Plan' is also in this complex--The Northlawn Building.
The interior scenes from The Farm were filmed on stage. This episode has two locations. 1. Kobol - Galleon Meadow Coquitlam, active gravel quarry, very dangerous Travel Tips: This site is private and inaccessible along a gated road. The mountain in the foreground of the screencap on the right is from the quarry, the mountain in the background was comped in by visual effects. 2. Kobol - Elosha's death Lynn Canyon Park, 3663 Park Road, in Lynn Valley, North Vancouver Take a virtual tour at the Lynn Canyon Park website. A great park map can be found here. Google Earth Map provided by Kent Sponagle. Travel Tips: Click the map to see a larger version. Find the gravel access road that runs through Lynn Canyon Park and follow it to the south end of the Bear Trail. Elosha died somewhere off the road (and the main campsite was at Bear Trail). Matching this site in the park seemed near impossible. Did you have better luck? Please contact us with stories and photos! On our first visit, we walked the Bear Trail (having asked at the Ecology Centre where productions usually film in the park) and, ironically enough, heard a very loud bear call at the bottom of the trail. I only knew what it was for sure because it sounded like Chewbacca, and I knew they used some bear sounds for him (I'm not particularly outdoorsy, lol). We made a lot of noise talking and jingling keys and high tailed it out of there! Especially if you're visiting on a weekday, when the park is not busy, consider bear bells or some other noise maker. This episode has four locations. 1. Kobol - The Gates of Hera The Lions (peaks), Capilano Park, 3735 Capilano Road, North Vancouver Travel Tips: Park in the Cleveland Dam parking lot. On a clear day, the Lions are visible from the lot! Cloudy skies were the norm for both of our trips, so we had difficulty getting a good shot. Many thanks to The 13th Colony for the cloud-free pics! The Lions are in repose on their backs, noses in the air. You'll notice that production flipped the shot left to right. 2. Kobol - Camp Site Lynn Canyon Park, 3663 Park Road in Lynn Valley Take a virtual tour at the Lynn Canyon Park Website. A great park map can be found here. Travel Tips: Find the gravel access road that runs through Lynn Canyon park and follow it to the south end of the Bear Trail. The main campsite was here (and Elosha died somewhere just off the road). Matching this site in the park seemed near impossible, so the matches above may be similar at best. Did you have better luck? Please contact us with stories and photos! Exterior Tomb of Athena Travel Tips: This site is at a private, active rock quarry. The road to the quarry is gated, so the site is unreachable at this time. In any case, we don't advise attempting to view rock quarries. 4. Interior Tomb of Athena (Earth) Royal Oak Avenue & Deer Lake Parkway, Burnaby - part of the public Deer Lake park. Travel Tips: You can stand on Earth ... on Earth. :) Deer Lake Park is very easy to get to in Burnaby (not far from Robert Burnaby Park, site of Roslin's dream from Flesh and Bone). We used the Google Map to the left to find parking and the path that led to the filming location. Click for a larger version of the map. This park is home to some of the largest slugs Mo had ever seen! (They were normal sized for any of you familiar with the area.) Baltar's House Tidewater Way, Lions Bay, BC Travel Tips: Baltar's house at Lions Bay is another location not to be missed. Park in the public lot near the water, and use the public beach access. Don't be like Anne and I and spend at least half an hour taking pictures of the water, ourselves and the water, the rocks, ourselves and the rocks, and not notice the house behind! Near the washrooms is a raised grassy area where you can enjoy a spectacular view (the one on the bottom left) of the house and the water, perfect for a picnic--we've had two, one on each trip :D. Even the ~35-minute drive from Vancouver is amazing, with a postcard view around every turn. Lee in the Water Indian Arm on the Burrand Inlet. See Google Earth map below for where the camera boat sailed. Google Earth map provided by Kent Sponagle. Help needed: We were unable to visit this site. It's not possible to view it from the opposite shore as it's mostly private land there. See below for boat rental tips. Share a photo for our website by contacting us on our about us page! Boat and driver rentals are available on weekends out of Deep Cove ($65/hr when we inquired). The website just lists boat rentals, but if you email the marina, you can arrange for a driver as well (only on weekends). The driver is an additional $15/hr. It is far more economical to rent a boat and driver to see this site than to take an Indian Arm boat tour (these last about three hours and average over $300). It's a gorgeous area, so a fun tourist option as well!
This episode has two locations. 1. The Riverwalk Market Entrance is where Burnaby Mountain Parkway meets Gaglardi Way. Simon Fraser Campus Map Behind the ScenesBelow is a photo of the academic quadrangle at SFU dressed as Adar's Office for 'Epiphanies.' Photos are copyright Maurice Woodworth and are not to be re-used without his written consent. Our photo is included for reference. Photo courtesy of Guy Earle Travel Tip: An absolute not-to-be-missed location in Burnaby, Simon Fraser University appears in many episodes. Finding a map on campus can be difficult, so use an online map like the one at the beginning of this post to help you plot your route through campus (or bring it up on your mobile device while you're there). We recommend parking in front of the West Mall Centre (aka the museum at Delphi!) as the best way to access all the sites at SFU (see photo, click to enlarge). 2. Roslin's Doctor's Office The Waterfall Building, 1540 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver Travel Tips: Used in many episodes, The Waterfall Building was Roslin's doctor's office in both the miniseries and Epiphanies (in flashback). Parking is an issue here--there is a gravel pay lot just across from the building that is best. There is also, appropriately, a Starbucks nearby!
Lee and his fiancée The Waterfall Building, 1540 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver Travel Tips: Used in many episodes, The Waterfall Building was where you see Lee with his fiancée Gianne in the flashback sequences in Black Market. Parking is an issue--there is a gravel pay lot just across from the building that is best. There is also, appropriately, a Starbucks nearby!
This episode has two locations. 1. Cylon Occupied Caprica The Waterfall Building, 1540 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver Travel Tips: The Waterfall Building made for a great Cylon hangout, as well as Sharon/Boomer's Caprica apartment, in Downloaded. Kara and Roslin also lived here (Roslin also visited the doctor in this complex). Anders and Barolay were on the roof on the east side. Parking is an issue--there is a gravel pay lot just across from the building that is best. There's also, appropriately, a Starbucks nearby! 2. Underground Parking Garage BC Cancer Agency, West 10 Avenue, Vancouver (torn down) Location Notes: The underground parkade where the explosion and debris all fall down on Anders was shot at the parking garage underneath the BC Cancer Agency. This building was torn down shortly after shooting and replaced with a new facility. The crew was unable to use gunfire in the garage, because it would have been too loud for the rats they bred for testing in the building above. Loud gunfire would have disturbed the breeding cycle and they would have been without rats for a while for their research. Non-guns, which just create a small muzzle flash, were used and the gunfire was put in later. Kent said that this was one of the stranger stories from his entire career as a location manager! Nuked Caprica Forest Capilano Park, 3735 Capilano Road,
North Vancouver Travel Tips: Park in the Cleveland Dam parking lot. You'll be able to see 'The Lions,' the mountains used as the 'Gates of Hera' in the Kobol arc from there. Cross the Cleveland Dam bridge (a site from 'The Plan') and you'll see a path on the left leading up. Walk up the path and right about where it begins to turn you'll see a wooden post with a small, yellow sign on it. Enter the woods here (there's an obvious path). Screen matching is difficult in this park, so the photos above are similar at best. We do believe we have some clear matches for the Kobol arc. :)
