This episode has four locations. 1. Cylon firing squad The 'Pergamus Flats' were a private and active rock quarry. This is not a site that's possible to visit, which is too bad as how much fun would it have been to throw Anne down the hill like Roslin did to Zarek? ... well, OK, just fun for me. :) This is also the site of Kara's crash landing in 'You Can't Go Home Again.' 2. Breeder's Canyon Upper Coquitlam River Park, 1791 Pipeline Road, Coquitlam Google Earth map provided by Kent Sponagle. Travel Tip: Park next to the fence and enter the park at the model plane area. If club members are present, be careful to ask so that you do not interfere with their planes. Head left and walk into the forest; the location comes up quickly (you'll reach the river). This episode has two locations. 1. New Caprica City Go to No. 8 and Blundell Road in Richmond, BC, and follow Blundell west until it ends. GPS coordinates: 49.156829, -123.043334 Location Notes: This location can be difficult to find. Thanks to Bart McLeroy for the photos! He found the location by putting the coordinates above into his GPS. It's now an industrial area, but it is possible to see some sand if you look closely. Behind the ScenesBelow are photos of the area off of Blundell Road, dressed as New Caprica City for several episodes, including 'Occupation.' Photos are copyright Maurice Woodworth, and are not to be re-used without his written consent. 2. Kara's Cell The Waterfall Building, 1540 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver Travel Tips: Kara's NC prison cell was actually in the same complex as her Caprica apartment--the Waterfall Building. This is a photo of the actual apartment. Parking can be an issue here, but there is a gravel pay lot slightly northwest of the building (across the street). Appropriately, there's a Starbucks nearby.
Be sure to check out the parts of the Miniseries, Black Market, Downloaded and Daybreak that were filmed here! This episode has four locations 1. Earth 2.0 Private land in Kamloops. We were so fortunate to have the opportunity to visit Earth 2.0 in 2011. It was much drier in May (it had been a slow, cold spring in Canada as well), but we were able to identify many of the locations. Everything was filmed quite close together to save the time and expense of moving cameras and equipment.
Our guide kindly left us out on the site, and we spent more than an hour just taking in where we were (and having a small picnic). I can't describe the feeling of being where the show ended--it was very emotional for us. We took a second trip in June 2012, and found many things we had missed! New locations found for Daybreak include Adama and Roslin's camp, the place the natives were sighted, and the spot where Starbuck disappears! Click 'read more' to see Kara's apartment, Roslin's apartment, Lee's apartment, Anders' pyramid rehab room, and Earth 150,000 years later! This episode has four locations. 1. Strip Bar Butter, 11935 207 Street, Maple Ridge, BC Help Needed: We have not travelled to this particular location. If you have a chance to check it out, please send us a pic of the exterior of the club for the site--it would be very appreciated! You can use the contact form on our about us page. The pic here is from Google Earth. 2&3. Kara's Apartment and Roslin's Apartment. The Waterfall Building, 1540 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver Travel Tips: Kara's apartment remains consistently the Waterfall Building throughout the series. In Daybreak, we see Roslin's Caprica apartment for the first time. It's the penthouse on the east side of the complex. Parking is an issue here--there is a gravel, pay lot just across from the building that is best. There is also, appropriately, a Starbucks nearby! 4. The Opera House The Orpheum Theatre, 850 block on the corner of Smithe and Seymour Streets, downtown Vancouver Travel Tips: Appearing in numerous episodes, The Opera House is an amazing spot to visit. In July and August, The Orpheum Theatre provides public tours that cost about $10 each. The tour is two hours long and you get to explore the Orpheum from basement to attic! An article about tours in 2011: Orpheum Tours.
This episode has eight locations. 1 & 2. Kara's apartment and Roslin's apartment The Waterfall Building, 1540 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver Travel Tips: Kara's apartment remains consistently the Waterfall Building throughout the series. In Daybreak, we see Roslin's Caprica apartment for the first time. It's the penthouse on the east side of the complex. Parking is an issue here--there is a gravel pay lot just across from the building that is best. There is also, appropriately, a Starbucks nearby! 3. Baltar's Father's House Private residence in West Vancouver. Travel Tips: Baltar's father's place was a small house in West Vancouver. Private. 4. Daybreak Fountain Simon Fraser University, entrance is where Burnaby Mountain Parkway meets Gaglardi Way. A behind the scenes look at Underworld 4 Travel Tips: Yes, I walked into the reflecting pool at the academic quadrangle. :) At that time, May 2010, there was no algae or koi in the water, and it was ridiculously cold, but very clean. We were there on a Friday afternoon, so there were virtually no students on campus. In 2011, the algae and koi were back, causing Anne to rethink her own wading plans, and we walked into a film shoot for Underworld 4! This site has two locations. 1. Nuked Earth Centennial Beach, Boundary Bay Road (Tsawwassen), Delta, BC Travel Tips: Kara's tree is not far from the parking lot (keep an eye out as you drive into the park as it's quite distinctive). Baltar's testing pond is also just off the parking lot, near the main building. There are picnic tables, a playground for kids, a nature sanctuary, and washrooms at this beach, so it's a great spot for an apocalyptic picnic! 2. Nuked Earth (Kara and Leoben) Beach Grove Park: 6051 17A Avenue, Delta, BC Travel Tips: Beach Grove Park is located right beside a school (the kids were all out at recess while we were there). The site itself is tucked well back--the Google Earth map here was invaluable in locating the spot. The park is less than a five-minute drive from Centennial beach. It can be very muddy, so wear appropriate footwear. We didn't see any damaged Viper parts on the ground. :) Behind the ScenesBelow are photos of Centennial Beach dressed as nuked Earth for 'Revelations' and 'Sometimes A Great Notion.' Photos are copyright Maurice Woodworth, and are not to be re-used without his written consent. Our photo is included for reference.
Nuked Earth Centennial Beach, Boundary Bay Road, Tsawwassen, Delta, BC Travel Tips: Boundary Bay is subject to tides--in the gallery above you can see pics of the bay at low and nearly high tide. Consulting a tide chart before you go can be very helpful as it was definitely high tide when they shot the episode. Also at Centennial Beach are Kara's tree where she found her body and the small pond where Baltar takes water samples. Pics of these can be seen in the 'Sometimes A Great Notion' section of this blog. Don't forget to grab your first fistful of Earth! Behind the ScenesBelow are photos of Centennial Beach dressed as nuked Earth for 'Revelations' and 'Sometimes A Great Notion.' An Unexpected Set VisitImagine heading out to the beach with your son, only to find apocalyptic ruins, a spaceship (Raptor), and a crowd of BSG cast and crew! This is the story of Natalie Shantz and her son, who visited the beach in 2009, just before the writers' strike. Cast members they saw included Jamie Bamber, James Callis and Tricia Helfer.
